Kenya is leading the way worldwide with the roll-out of voluntary medical male circumcision as an HIV prevention tool.
This good news story has been in the Kenyan media, and has put Kenyan scientists in the limelight at the International Aids conference in Washington DC.
And now the Kenyan community, the men from Nyanza, who have been the beneficiaries of this circumcision drive, are telling their own story. They have been documenting their journey - from making the decision, to protect themselves from HIV, to undergoing the procedure itself – as part of a project of the Global Advocacy for HIV Prevention (AVAC). AVAC fellow, Simon Oduwuor, with the help of Internews trainers John Kinyanjui and Dolphine Emali spent time in Nyanza to show a group of men and women how documenting their experiences would inspire others.
