Truth Team Defends Calls for more Time
The Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) is appealing for more time to complete its work, saying it has made significant progress in the execution of its mandate. “We have collected 42,000 statements from the public assisted by 304 statement takers, the highest number by any truth and justice commission in the world, in addition to 1,500 memoranda that we have received,” said TJRC Acting Executive Director Tom Chavangi. He added the time extension sought is within the law and would allow TJRC to fulfill its mandate.
