Gender and regional balance took center stage as CJ Willy Mutunga named 28 new High Court Judges. Among them were 14 women, 11 magistrates and two from minority groups. Mutunga also swore in the new Chief Registrar Gladys Shollei.

Justice minister Mutula Kilonzo has proposed an additional 23 Supreme Court Judges and 120 High Court Judge to address the issue of understaffing in the judiciary. Mutula said he is in talks with the judiciary to amend the law and ensure that service delivery is satisfactory to the public.
