Incident Report Description

Members of the Maasai community have paralyzed the drilling of geothermal wells in Naivasha after a major row erupted between them and Kengen.

The irate pastoralists accused the power generating company of oppressing them for years adding that it was time justice was done and their demands met.

The Maasais stopped engineers from working in one of the new wells in Olosinyat Olonongot area and demanded that the World Bank, which is funding the project, intervene.

The move is a big blow to the government’s initiative to increase geothermal power and curb reliance on hydropower.
