Kavuludi says police nominees fit for office

National Police Service Commission chairman Johnston Kavuludi has backed President Mwai Kibaki’s appointment of the Grace Kaindi and Samuel Arachi as deputy police inspector general and Ndegwa Muhoro as the director of criminal investigations. Kavuludi said the commission will stand by the list of nominees. Prime Minister Raila Odinga rejected the appointment of the three citing serious integrity issues. Kavuludi said yesterday that as far as the commission is concerned, those listed were suitable and fit to hold those offices. The appointments were made as part of the ongoing reforms in the police service following the passing of the new constitution in 2010. David Kimaiyo was appointed last year as the first Inspector General of Police under the new constitutional arrangement.
