Protecting New Borns from HIV
According to National AIDS and STIs Control Programme NASCOP 45, 000 infants are estimated to be born with HIV every year. Experts however, say that this could be reversed if efforts are stepped up to reduce transmission of the virus from mother to child. Prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) services have been introduced to reduce this transmission which can occur during pregnancy, labour, delivery or breast feeding.
